SHOU SUGI BAN

SHOU SUGI BAN

The process by which BURNS products are made is a completely natural way of protecting wood and is a modern equivalent of the traditional Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban (literal translation: Charred Cedar Board). Hundreds of years ago, in the Land of the Blossoming Cherry, its inhabitants struggling with numerous fires noticed the genius of nature hidden in a charred layer of wood. Perversely, it turned out that it is a natural reaction of wood to fire in order to stop the combustion process. Once burned, wood is harder to ignite again. In addition, wood becomes more resistant to weather and biological conditions such as mold, fungi and insects. Thanks to the Japanese inquisitiveness and their characteristic sensitivity manifested in the search for beauty in elementary things, we can now enjoy the breathtaking BURNS facade claddings.

WABI SABI

Wabi Sabi is the ancient Japanese wisdom of finding beauty in imperfection and simplicity in nature, of accepting the natural cycles of growth, decay, and death. Enjoying the simple, natural, and uncluttered, Wabi Sabi reveres authenticity above all. It celebrates cracks, chips, and other marks of time, weather, and use. Once we see the beauty in such “deficiencies”, we can learn to embrace the flaws—the wrinkles, rust, and frayed edges, and all the imperfections in our lives.

The process of charring and protecting boards results in beautiful visual effects that perfectly match the latest design trends. BURNS products are dedicated for outdoor use so that the facades of your buildings will look special. Like any such product, it will change over time and requires maintenance.

XXI CENTURY

BURNS offers cladding made of many spieces of wood such as Douglas fir, Accoya (pina radiata), Kebony, thermomodified Ash, Larch. Our masters of fire, with great respect for the tradition of Shou Sugi Ban, use BURNS boards using modern methods. A characteristic feature of our products is natural diversity. The appearance of each board is individual, depending on the grain pattern, wood species and class.
